Last week, I tried Starbucks’ Autumn Blend. I liked it because of its sweetness, highlighted by floral sage notes, and its full-bodied richness, which comes from the dark roast. I can’t say the same for the Breakfast Blend. While it also has floral notes with a hint of citrus, it’s much milder. There is a touch of sweetness with some fruit notes hidden deep in the flavor, but it’s difficult to detect. The combination of the floral notes and the softer tones tends to make it taste more sour. Autumn Blend doesn’t have this issue, thanks to its sweetness and robust body.
The main problem with this coffee is that it doesn’t have anything special to offer. Yes, there are some citrus notes, but they’re not particularly impressive. I’d prefer more pronounced fruitiness or bitterness, but this blend doesn’t lean strongly in either direction. For instance, I might drink Ethiopian coffee for its great acidity, or Sumatra coffee for its full body and earthy tones. However, I’m stuck with this now. Fortunately, it doesn’t taste terrible; it’s just a bit dull.
